Cardboard Cares Art Teacher Grant Program

Art Teacher Project Grant Program Application

In light of supporting student art education in the Alexandria area, Cardboard Cares is exploring ways we can support local art educators. We understand how tight your funds are stretched making it difficult to teach the way you want and best know how to deliver high quality lessons to your students. It is unfair for art teachers to pay out of their own pockets for supplies they need to do their jobs.

Cardboard Cares is starting a pilot grant program to award individual licensed K-12 art teachers* in Alexandria, Garfield, Carlos, and Miltona up to $500 (one per teacher) for engaging art projects until grant funds are depleted for the year. This money is intended to cover the material and supply costs outside their teacher’s annual school budget for classroom supplies to offer kids opportunities they would not normally get due to limited art teacher budgets. If this proves to be sufficiently beneficial, we will make this an annual award and extend the area to include additional school districts surrounding Alexandria as long as we can provide the funding.

Use of funds must be documented** and submitted to Cardboard Cares via email by the end of the school year. See note below for documentation details. Failure to submit proof of student project will result in the teacher being ineligible for future funds from Cardboard Cares.

Accepted applicants notified by Aug 20 with checks mailed that week. Applications are accepted anytime, however, be mindful of the timing of the distribution of funds, ordering supplies, shipping, and how that works with your planned curriculum for the year. Funds will be distributed in a first come first serve basis as long as applicant qualifies. Once the funds are depleted for the year, applicants will need to wait until the following year to apply. The following questions are on the application below:

School where you teach youth art:

Project grade level(s):

Number of students impacted:

Describe project:

What are the students expected to gain from this experience:

Detailed budget for supplies required to ensure students have equitable opportunity to complete project:

If costs exceed $500, how do you intend to cover those expenses:

Address (where you want funds mailed to):

*The following are not eligible to apply for art project funding: schools, community education, religious organizations, youth groups or community groups. Funding does not pay teacher wages or fees. Funding is not guaranteed from one year to the next due to Cardboard Cares dependence on price fluctuations in the global cardboard recycling market.

**Accepted documentation includes unaltered photos of samples of completed projects or students*** working on the project, and a brief letter describing the project outcomes. Even unsuccessful art projects have validity to learning experiences. Would you do something different if you taught this project again?

***Privacy concerns. We may choose to use photos submitted on our social media or website to share how our funds are going to good use. If there are students in pictures who cannot have their photo shared please crop or blur faces before submitting. Simply showing their hands at work or holding their finished project is perfectly acceptable if they don’t wish to show their smiley face.
